We all are hearing things are not the same as they were. COVID has changed everything. This is new normal. Things will return to normal.
Question is if our normal was normal? If the things were as they should be? Were we doing the best for economy, planet, for fellow humans, were we growing at a sustainable pace, if our mad race towards excellence towards “I want all for me” was inclusive? Were we thoughtful? Were we mindful? If we were conscious?
Was that normal worth calling a normal when almost half the world was hungry? 1/3 were below poverty lines? Terrorism to radicalism were rampant? When “Economic Race” became number driven rather human driven and success of human life was weighed with wealth one holds not the intellect or sprituality or good deeds.
Introspective analysis do tell us otherwise. Within 45 days of lockdown environment flourished, air became breathable in metropolitans, animals came out in open, seen peacocks dancing in some backyard, heard birds chirping in morning and after ages seen sky full of stars like in our childhood. In fact lot of kids saw these natural phenomenons for the first time. Now that’s not normal.
Kids should be in touch with their environment. That would have been normal. Parents should have time for their kids to play with them to nurture them. That’s normal. We should tender the garden, that’s normal, not all the time running after money, power, big cars, bigger houses, latest gadgets, more and more and more that’s not normal.
Now after a careful scanning of our lives do we really want to go back to those normals. Yes the pandemic will be over sooner or later and hoping for the sooner but going back to that normal should we choose that? Again racing with watch to reach office in rush hour traffic, coming back home when kids are already in bed, hoping to have sometime over weekend and waking hungover on Saturday mid noon. Do we really want that normal back?
Dreading to pick up morning newspaper filled with corruption, violence, terrorist attacks, road accidents, death and distructions attributed to human misdeeds. Does that sound normal. Insensitivity towards every other creature and Mother Nature does it sounds normal. It’s a god sent opportunity for us to reflect on our normal and redefine it.
Let’s hope that Normal don’t come back ever and together we work on a new normal consciously for betterment of physical, mental and economical well being for all without this deadly virus and pay our dues to Mother Nature.
Really hoping for a New Normal and together we can and we shall define and implement it.
